Lossiemouth: The Jewel of the Moray Firth
Known affectionately by locals as 'Lossie,' this vibrant coastal town is blessed with two spectacular, contrasting beaches, a bustling marina, and a dramatic maritime history. From the wild sand dunes of the East Beach to the rugged headlands of the West Beach—guarded by the iconic Covesea Skerries Lighthouse—Lossiemouth offers some of the finest coastal landscapes and wildlife tracking opportunities in Scotland.
The Iconic East Beach & Footbridge
For years, Lossiemouth’s spectacular East Beach was cut off from the town after the old wooden bridge became unsafe. Today, a stunning, modern £1.8 million pedestrian bridge gracefully spans the River Lossie, welcoming walkers back to an incredible paradise of massive, sweeping sand dunes, wild rolling waves, and pristine shorelines.
West Beach & Covesea Lighthouse
Stretching out to the west of the town lies the sweeping expanse of the West Beach. Fringed by beautiful, rocky headlands and rich marram grass dunes, this side of Lossie is famously dominated by the towering white structure of Covesea Skerries Lighthouse. Built in 1846 by Alan Stevenson following a disastrous storm, the iconic beacon stands tall over the coastline, guiding ships away from the treacherous reefs below.

🚗 How to Get to Lossiemouth
Location: Situated on the Moray coast, roughly 5 miles directly north of Elgin via the A941.
East Beach Parking: Head toward the colorful marina and park at the dedicated Esplanade Car Park (IV31 6SP). This sits right at the foot of the stunning new pedestrian footbridge, making it incredibly easy to walk straight over the water onto the massive dunes.
West Beach & Lighthouse Parking: Drive through the town toward the golf course on Covesea Road. There is a great parking area right by the dunes at the West Beach Car Park. Alternatively, you can continue along the minor road toward the Covesea Skerries Lighthouse where a small gravel parking area sits right by the boundary wall for up-close photography.
